BHI Experiences Torrential Rainfall

The Cape Fear area has been experiencing record level drought conditions throughout the entire month of September, leaving a 15-inch rainfall deficit for the area. But that changed when rain began falling steadily last weekend and didn’t let up until late Thursday evening.  This September is now recorded as the second wettest on record with rainfall of just over 22 inches! The record is 23.41 inches.

 

The Village of Bald Head Island staff has done a wonderful job of reacting quickly to the flooding with multiple pumps around the Island sending water to outfalls on the ocean, river and creek, all part of the effort to lower the water table across the Island. For the most part, properties fared very well. Several roads on the Island have had water issues, but the majority of the roads are fine. Some homes had flooding to deal with but never fear, BHI is as resilient as always; things are drying out.
