Families
and friends flocked to the Island to enjoy the holiday weekend and pay
respects to those who have served in our Armed forces. On Monday, I
attended the services on the grounds of Old Baldy, where people spoke of
families that had served.
My
father was a Captain in the Infantry and fought in the Battle of the
Bulge, was awarded a Bronze Star, and helped to liberate a concentration
camp... all before drinking Vodka with Russians the night before the Cold
War started. My mother, who served in the Red Cross, was stationed in New
Guinea and the Philippines.
Like
many of you, I am proud of my parents’ service to our country. I hope
each of you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
