While
hurricane Irene had resounding effects up and down the eastern seaboard,
our little Island did quite well. We had sustained winds of 55 mph and
gust up to 70 mph. We did take a lot of water and it blew sideways for a
good while. Most of the damage was the odd tree down here and there and
limbs and twigs everywhere. The Village did a great job of getting the
roads cleared of debris and things were pretty much back to normal by the
next day. We lost power for 6 or 7 hours and the ferry service was
restored at 6 pm Saturday. Also, a special thanks to Claude Pope for
keeping us all informed and up to date while the storm was in progress.
With
the storm behind us, the Island welcomed many residents and guest back
for the Labor Day Weekend. The weather was so beautiful this Friday, that
Betty and I decided a little cruise on the boat was in order. We got back
into the Harbour with the sweet sounds of the “Embers” playing some
good old beach music. We couldn’t resist and had a great time with lots
of familiar faces enjoying the evening.

Head Island, there is just no place I would rather be.
