For
you anglers out there, I was out on the water the other evening and
noticed a lot of bait fish in the marinas. This is a sure sign for
a great fall fishing season. The water temperature is beginning to drop a
bit and the bait fish are trying to find warmer waters and places to
hide. So, good activity in the creeks and marinas.
On
this same note, I was heading to my boat for a little cleanup work and as
I approached the dock, I noticed a large school of 10-12 inch fish near
the bulk head. I just stopped to watch them a moment when I saw a large
dark shadow under water heading to the school at a very high rate of
speed. I had no idea what it was, so I just stood there and waited. It
went straight through them and began chasing after individual fish as it
scattered the school. Finally, it came to the surface, looked at me and
then resumed his attempt at a mid-day snack. It was a Sea Otter. I did
not realize that there were any in this area. I watched him for about ten
more minutes and then the school and the Otter disappeared. Just another
example of the connection to nature here on the Island.
Bald
Head Island, there is just no place I would rather be.
