4th of July Celebration | An Island Favorite

June 22, 2017

One of our favorite times on Bald Head is the Fourth of July weekend. Every year, it‘s kicked off with the Conservancy’s Annual Picnic. This year, the picnic will be 4-8 P.M., Sunday, July 2nd, at Cape Fear Commons. As usual, the picnic is free and open to the public and features music by the Mark Daffer Band, food catered by the Maritime Market, a Kids Craft tent and a silent auction. I hear this year’s auction is featuring a John Boat and tickets to Charlotte’s PGA Tournament!

On the Fourth, the Golf Cart Parade is a true “small town” event, complete with golf carts and bikes decorated in one of the three themes-Patriotic, Anything BHI or Tacky Tourist. We like the fire engines and creative decorations, while kids live for the thrown candy.

Island families end the 4th on West Beach watching Southport’s fireworks extravaganza…the cool breezes, a comfy beach chair, a cool libation and the fantastic views without the ear-splitting noise are the perfect way to end the celebration of our country’s independence. Being on Bald Head for the 4th makes the holiday even better!

See you there! Look for our yellow cart in the parade!
